Ever had a Barhi date? You can only get them this time of year (around here, anyway). They’re one of the few dates that are good to eat while still in the hard stage, rather than soft and ripened. Crunchy like an apple, but it only takes a couple of chews before they literally just vanish into an effervescent hail of natural sugar.
And then, after they sit around for a while, they get dark, progressively gooey-er, and taste just like butterscotch.
Just another reason to hail September, I guess…
